Spring is here in Willcox, Arizona, and this year we are expanding our garden at L&B Farm.
This is our third season growing produce, and each year we have continued to learn, improve, and grow right along with it. What started smaller has turned into a bigger part of the farm, and we are excited to see it continue to take shape.
We have always raised a variety of products here at L&B Farm, and growing our own vegetables has become a natural extension of that. It allows us to offer even more fresh, seasonal options while staying true to what we care about. Quality, freshness, and doing things the right way.
Why We Continue to Grow the Garden
Each season has shown us the value of growing more of our own food.
Expanding the garden allows us to:• Offer a wider variety of fresh, seasonal produce• Build on what we have learned over the past two years• Continue improving quality and consistency• Stay connected to the land and the growing process
Like everything in farming, it is always a work in progress, but that is part of what makes it rewarding.
What We Are Growing This Year
We planned this year’s garden with both experience and our Arizona climate in mind, choosing crops that perform well while still offering variety.
Watermelon
Watermelon is a big focus for us this season. We are planting more than ever before and are looking forward to a strong summer harvest here in Willcox.
Root Crops
We are continuing with a solid lineup of root vegetables:• Onions• Beets• Carrots• Potatoes• Turnips• Rutabaga
These have proven to be reliable crops for us and are great staples.
Cool Season Crops
We are also growing:• Brussels sprouts• Cabbage• Cauliflower• Broccoli
These take a little more time and attention but are always worth it.
Beans
Beans remain part of the mix and are a dependable producer throughout the season.
Fresh Herbs
We are continuing to grow:• Thyme• Rosemary• Basil• Parsley
Fresh herbs are something we have really enjoyed offering and plan to keep building on.
A New Flower Cutting Garden
Along with vegetables, we are also adding a new flower cutting garden this year.
We are growing:• Zinnias• Asters• Delphinium• Larkspur
These flowers bring color to the farm and allow us to offer fresh cut bouquets throughout the season.
Farming in Southern Arizona
Even with experience, every season brings new challenges.
Here in Willcox and Southern Arizona, we are always working around:• Heat• Wind• Dry conditions• Soil and water management
No two seasons are the same, and that is part of what keeps us learning and adapting.
What to Expect This Season
As the garden continues to grow, we will be offering more fresh items throughout the season.
Availability will always depend on timing and conditions, which is part of buying local and seasonal.
